Viticulture and winemaking issues have been discussed in the Federation Council (2016-11-23)

In November 22, 2016 the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management Sergey Lisovsky held a meeting of the Expert Council concerning “Viticulture and winemaking development, alcohol market regulation”.

The following members took part in the meeting: the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Economic Policy Gennady Ordenov, a member of the Federation Council Committee for National Defense and Security  Olga Kovitidi, representatives of the Agricultural industry, the Federal Service for Alcohol Market Regulation, the Federal Tax Service, leaders of wine plants.

A member of the Council for Agricultural and Environmental Management Issues within the Federation Council, the leader of the division “Viticulture and winemaking development, alcohol market regulation” Alexander Mordovin underlined the importance of business cooperation with legislative authorities in order to accept decisions for further development of the alcohol industry.

“The key purpose of the Expert Council – to find more problematic items in this field and to solve it,” Vladimir Gusev noted.

The President of Viticulturists and Wine Makers’ Union Leonid Popovich informed that there were near 90 thousand ha of vineland in Russia. So, a half of local wine production was made of  Russian grape and another half – imported Spain, Italy, RSA etc. 

By opinion of Leonid Popovich, Russian climate conditions allow for growing of any grape quantity necessary for production needs. Also he told about problems connected with imperfection of the regulation system in this sphere.

The Deputy Director of the Food and Processing Department Irina Fedina and the Deputy Director of All Russian Scientific and Research Brewing, Beverage and Wine Institute Alexander Panasuk made their reports within the meeting.

According to the results of the meeting, recommendations for further development of viticulture and wine growing have been accepted by the Federation Council Committee for Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, the Ministry of Finance and Agriculture.
