Anheuser-Busch InBev plans to purchase malting barley in Omsk region (2012-08-08)

On July, 31 2012 the meeting between the Omsk region Governor Nazarov Viktor Ivanovich and the Anheuser-Busch InBev company management took place. As a result the brewers have expressed their desire to purchase large batches of malting barley in the region for brewing (the company branch in Omsk – Sun InBev).

“One of the most promising directions is realization of the malting barley growing program in Omsk region, the crop area of barley is now 360 thousand hectares. 80 agricultural enterprises grow the crop. Malting capacities of the Sun InBev company need 60-70 thousand tons of raw materials” – the Zone President of the company in Central and Eastern Europe Stuart MacFarlane said.

According to him, despite the drought and low crop yield that is 8 – 10 centners of barley per hectare, this year the company will have sufficient raw material volumes. However, in the future InBev intends to expand its production and to purchase more barley. Therefore, the company plans to explore the local varieties of barley to determine its brewing suitability.

Regarding the results of the meeting, the head of the region noted that the corporation supports Omsk agricultural producers and provides new jobs. He also expressed his readiness to discuss any issues with the company management and to jointly work out solutions.

According to regional authorities, the Omsk branch of InBev makes the top three largest taxpayers. The amount of the company contributions to the budget of Omsk region is estimated at four billion rubles.
