Malt production in Russia in 2006-2012 (2013-02-27)

According to the RF State Statistics Service, malt production in 2012 increased by 21% compared to 2011 and it amounted to 1.220,23 thousand tons. Detailed information can be found at BMBU website. Therefore for the first time in five years we witness positive dynamics of malt production. We would like to remind you that the record volume of malt was produced in Russia in 2007, and it amounted to 1.469,75 thousand tons (see Conference archive).

What caused the growth that Russian malting companies needed so much? May it be the ratio of malt and unmalted cereals 80:20 that came into force on 01.01.2013 (see details)? Partly yes, because there was an increase in malt production in May, June and July, as well as in November and December 2012. Will there be produced more malt in 2013 than in 2012? According to our estimate, while maintaining the ratio of 80:20 the malt production may be about 1,400 tons, which will cover the need of the Russian brewing industry. We recall that the total malting capacity in Russia is more than 1 million 800 thousand tons.
