in equivalent to the Technical Regulations of European Union No 10/2011 dd. 14.01.2011.
“PET containers, beer and food products”
Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich!
In view of troubled political situation concerning use of PET containers in brewing sector and presence of strong supporters of limits introduction as well as defenders of PET among transnational brewing lobby and plastic industry influenced on legislative and executive authorities, we ask You to move “conflict“ to a meaningful activity, break tension and soothe opposition.
On behalf of 300 companies, members of the Union, we ask you to encharge the Ministry of Health, the Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare, the Ministry for Economic Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry for Industry and Trade with a task to take the lead in the development of the Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union “Concerning plastic materials and products used in food package” in equivalent to the Technical Regulations of European Union No 10/2011 dd. 14.01.2011.
Again and again we drew attention of the Russian Government to necessity for the development of the Technical Regulations focusing not only on brewing products but also beverages and food, packed in plastic containers. But things are still right where they started.
There are no PET products in pure form in nature and unfortunately, taking into account relative harmlessness of polyethylene theraphthalate, there are thousands of monomer molecules addictives used for production of PET containers for food. Moreover its use is not regulated in our country. This refers to silver agents, antioxidants, antistatic agents, plasticizers, colorants and pigments, modifies of shine and viscosity, light and heat stabilizers, fillers, slip agents etc. Exact content of produced plastic containers for food is even unknown to producers themselves.
Detailed version of the letter is available here.
The Technical Regulations of European Union No 10/2011 dd. 14.01.2011 is available by reference.
