In the event Russian and foreign representatives of all links of the production chain “malting barley beer”: research institutes, malting barley breeders, seed farms, agricultural producers, hop producers, plant protection agents producers, representatives of small, medium and large malting and brewing industries, machinery and equipment manufacturers.

“I am heartily glad to welcome all participants of such an important forum, Russian and foreign representatives of the production chain “malting barley – beer” on the ancient and hospitable land of Kursk!

The decision of the Barley, Malt and Beer Union, the Union of Russian Brewers and ZAO Bayer to hold the III Field Day of malting, kvass and beer brewing industry of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan in Oboyan, Kursk region is not only a great opportunity to get to know better and to evaluate advanced experience of Kursk agricultural enterprises specialized in the manufacture of advanced high-yielding malting barley varieties, but it is also a real chance to build strong relationship to develop your own business.

I wish participants and guests of the Field Day fruitful work and successful implementation of new plans and projects!” – Governor of Kursk region Alexander Mikhailov said during his welcome speech.

Participants viewed plot, semi-industrial and industrial malting barley variety trials which were established on April 27, 2013. Experts of the breeding companies introduced new varieties (included in the State Register or those which are on state variety trials) and standards varieties earning recognition of malting and brewing industries of EEC states.

Development of harmonious relations between the links of the production chain “malting barley – beer” is among the most urgent topics discussed at the event. There is no secret that the price and volume of malting barley purchases depend on the malting and brewing industry as the customer, and the industry forms necessary volumes in accordance with beer products formulation and legal restrictions on the use of any components.

The following requirement came into force a year ago: to use in beer production at least 80% of brewing malt and only 20% of unmalted grain material, of which 2% or less of sugar-containing components. This has made malting barley the most profitable crop in 2013.

According to BMBU experts, profitability is over 70%! There are signed contracts with suppliers of malting barley at an attractive price and if one could limit malting barley import, which exceeded 500,000 tons in 2012, and achieve purchase of these quantities in the domestic market it could be said that malting barley has become grain crop No. 1 once again, the most important, the most profitable.

At the Field Day the best representatives of the production chain “malting barley – beer” were awarded:
