Russia: National Union of Grain Producers & Barley, Malt and Beer Union to engage in malting barley export development – Newsletter No. 29a (2013-07-19)

On July 17 the Agreement on cooperation and collaboration between the National Union of Grain Producers (NUGP) and the Barley, Malt and Beer Union (BMBU) was signed in the Ministry of Agriculture with the participation of the Deputy Minister Iliya Shestakov: http://barley-malt.ru/?p=4681&lang=en.

The Unions supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation will develop cooperation to facilitate expansion of the export potential of Russia and to carry out the co-project between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China “Beijing Program” developed with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, approved by the Russia–China Intergovernmental Commission for the Preparation of Regular Meetings of the Heads of the Governments. The program aims to produce commercial malting barley on the territory of Russia and then to export it to China and the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). http://mcx.ru/news/news/show/13797.78.htm.

In the framework of the given project the NUGP and BMBU with the participation of the China National Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries, representatives of the malting and brewing industry of China, ZAO Bayer, Technical University of Berlin and Technical University of Munich, organizes variety trials of malting barley of Russian and foreign selection to determine the best varieties, lines and agricultural technologies as well as malting and brewing characteristics of the barley varieties under trials.

At the moment the variety trials are established in the Altai Krai, Novosibirsk region and Omsk region. The first results of the project will be reviewed at the Grain Forum Siberia 2013, which will be held on August 8-9 in Omsk: http://conf.nszr.ru/III_sezd/visitors/registration/.
