Republic of Belarus is imposing a ban on malting barley import (2013-08-22)

President of Belarus A. Lukashenko has imposed a ban on malting barley import reasoning it that villages in Belarus can cover domestic market requirements independently.

Opinion of A. Lukashenko is based on information and position of Barley, Malt and Beer Union, Ministry of Agriculture of Belarus and group of companies “Belgospishcheprom”, provided towards Eurasian Economic Commission on necessity to impose restrictions on malting barley import and opportunity of agroindustrial complex of Eurasian Economic Commission to produce required barley volumes for domestic consumption. It’s notable that response of Belarus to information and position of our Union turned out to be tougher than we could expect.

“No one ton of imported malting barley will be delivered from Germany and Czech Republic”, stated President A. Lukashenko, adding that this year harvest of malting barley was quite good.

Due to the fact that malting barley import ban in Republic of Belarus is fully consonant with the position of The Russian Federation in point of necessity of imposing restrictions on malting barley import, we hope for positive decision of Eurasian Economic Commission in the matter of placing restrictions on malting barley supply for all Custom Union.
